A COMMUNITY CELEBRATION
A brand new grand piano for Bendigo will be officially launched with a celebratory concert bringing together more than 30 musicians at St Paul’s Cathedral on Sunday 8 November.
Bendigo Fine Music will unveil The People’s Piano, a magnificent new 7’6” Yamaha C7X that will have its permanent home at St Paul’s Cathedral, Bendigo.
A major community fundraising campaign raised the money needed to purchase the instrument, which is valued at $90,000, with many contributions of all sizes from supporters in Bendigo and beyond helping secure a brand new world-class piano for the city.
An afternoon concert will celebrate The People’s Piano launch and demonstrate the instrument’s remarkable versatility, featuring music from Handel, Mozart and beyond.
More than 30 musicians will take part, including acclaimed soprano Merlyn Quaife AM, flautist Masahide Kurita, 11-year-old pianist Rachel Lin, and soprano Matilda Wilby, accompanied by her teacher Louise Matthews.
The Bendigo Chamber Choir, directed by Michael Bottomley, will also perform, with Bendigo Fine Music Artistic Director Thomas Heywood at The People’s Piano.
